About Indy Inline

Ellenberger Park Inline Hockey

Indy Inline Hockey currently hosts and organizes pickup inline hockey every Wednesday from 6:30pm – 9:00pm (dates and times subject to change and expansion, check the Calendar and News pages for the most up-to-date information) at the rink located in Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. Saint Clair Street, Indianapolis, IN. The Ellenberger inline rink is a former ice-hockey rink, sans ice, making it perfect for inline hockey.

Ellenberger pickup games are open to skaters of all skill levels (over 18 years old) and emphasize camaraderie, sportsmanship, and competitive play. Teams are chosen at random every week and shuffled as needed to even-out teams and maintain competitiveness. Games are either 4v4 or 5v5 depending on how many players we have on the benches, plus goalies. New and/or aspiring goalies are always welcome.

Entry is a flat $10 per skater, per skate. First-time players are required to sign a release prior to skating. Individuals attempting to skirt either the skate-charge or registration will be asked to leave the facility and will be banned.

We play with Verbero Aero pucks. Goalies are required to wear full equipment. Full equipment is not required for skaters, but is recommended. At a minimum, skaters must wear shin pads, gloves, and skates (duh). The surface at Ellenberger is EXTREMELY SMOOTH polished concrete. It plays almost like ice, so we suggest sticky, soft wheels to help keep your edges.

Our number one rule is: “Don’t be an asshole.” Player conduct should flow from this guiding principle, but examples are: keep shots low when shooting into traffic; keep shift lengths appropriate to the number of skaters on the bench; absolutely no fighting, checking, tripping, slashing, slew-footing, boarding, etc. This is not an exhaustive list. Be an adult and don’t be an asshole and you’ll be fine. Indy Inline Hockey’s mission is to bring inline hockey back to Indianapolis, with an emphasis not only on competitiveness, but also on camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Arsenal Park Inline Hockey:

Arsenal Park is an outdoor facility built by Indianapolis Bicycle Polo with the permission of the Indianapolis parks Department, located at 1400 E. 46th Street, Indianapolis, IN. Formerly two tennis courts, it is now two open-air, plywood-boarded rinks. The rinks are smaller than a normal hockey rink, making for fast paced, street-hockey style play.

Arsenal Park pickup skates are currently scheduled on a “To Be Announced” basis, so keep an eye on the Calendar and News pages for upcoming skates. Arsenal games are played either 3v3 or 4v4, plus subs and goalies, with games being played on both rinks as necessary. As with our Ellenberger skates, teams are typically randomly chosen, and we emphasize camaraderie and good hockey.

Entry for Arsenal skates is free. We play with a weather-appropriate hockey-ball, so equipment choices are discretionary, but full equipment is recommended. The surface is a very abrasive tennis –court type coating. It allows for hard turns and rapid acceleration, but eats soft wheels, so we recommend hard, outdoor wheels for Arsenal skates.

Arsenal skates are governed by the “Don’t be an asshole” rule. The boards and surface are less forgiving than Ellenberger, and the surface is smaller, so self-awareness is stressed to avoid accidental collisions.

Note that the rinks at Arsenal Park are public and anyone is welcome to skate during park hours. Anyone wishing to get a skate together is welcome to use Indy Inline Hockey’s Facebook page as a starting point.
